Firebirds Add New Instructors

The Firebirds are happy to announce a hearty contingent of instructors and advisors who will be available across all of our teams.

Keith Tasaka has spent nearly 10 years on staff at the University of Mary Washington and serves as the Eagles' pitching coach. Coach Tasaka also works extensively with the infielders and hitters. Prior to his time at Mary Washington, Coach Tasaka spent 10 years as the Head Coach at Robert E. Lee High School.

Randy Yates has more than 15 years of competitive coaching experience and both the high school and travel levels. Coach Yates has been the Associate Head Coach at South County High School since 2005, helping guide them to 7 District titles, 2 Regional titles and a State championship in 2014. Coach Yates also coached the very successful 97 Firebirds to 19 tournament victories, including a VA ASA State Championship, USSSA State Championship, a top 5 (out of 55 teams) finish at an NSA World Series in Orlando and a Pony Nationals Runner-up finish. Coach Yates is an experienced and respected instructor in the softball community and has taken teams to tournaments in Italy. He is the recipient of Champion of Character Award as one of the 9 Best Youth Coaches in Fairfax County of any sport.

Hector Collazzo is currently the Assistant Coach at Lake Braddock Secondary School. Coach Collazzo. Lake Braddock has consistently been one of the most successful programs in Northern Virginia, routinely turning out Division I athletes.

Mike Edwards has had a successful career coaching travel teams. Together with Coach Yates, he built the 97 Firebirds into one of the elite programs in the Mid-Atlantic region. Under his guidance, Firebirds teams won dozens of tournaments, and earned almost 30 bids to various World Series and National tournaments.
