Firebirds 14U - Moon

About the team

Firebirds 14U-Moon will consist primarily of 2005 birth year players and will play at the highest level possible, entering A level and Open tournaments.  The team will mainly play local tournaments in the Fall, and then look to travel more in the Spring and Summer to play higher levels of competition. Overall, the team is focused on developing players to play the game at a high level and to be prepared for high school and on a path to play in college.

The Staff

The team is coached by Jake Moon, the varsity head coach at Edison High School and 2018 National District Coach of the Year. Coach Moon has 15 years of experience as a travel and high school softball and baseball coach. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played college baseball at Cal State Fullerton.  Kristy Goodrich and Megan Hardy will be the assistant coaches.

Coach Goodrich has experience as a youth softball coach and pitching coach, and served as an assistant coach and pitching coach at the University of Maine, a Division I program. Growing up in Ohio, Coach Goodrich pitched and played third base for her travel team, which consistently placed top 2 in the state and went to ASA Nationals. She holds the Ohio state record for most strikeouts pitched in one game. She played Division I college ball for Furman University in Greenville, SC.

Coach Hardy was the head varsity coach at Potomac Falls High School for two seasons. Growing up in Pennsylvania, she played first base, third base, and catcher. She played Division III softball at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA, where she still holds the single season home run record.

Karen Walker will serve the Firebirds as an advisor, to help guide our college recruiting efforts. Coach Walker brings an amazing track record of working with student athletes at the Mount Vernon Magic to further their softball careers at all levels of intercollegiate play.
