Firebirds 10U – Palazzo

The Firebirds 10U - Palazzo will be a newly formed team for which our goals are to stress fundamentals, conditioning, understanding of the game, and sportsmanship as the team evolves into a cohesive unit. Our expectation is that players, as well as, their families are highly-motivated to succeed, and in turn, we will be the conduit to nurture that success through solid hands-on instruction and emphasis on a “Team First” concept.  

Firebirds 12U – Mrowka
Our team will provide or players a consistent opportunity to develop as athletes and people.  Practices will include a mix of individual skill development, unit-work, game repetitions and physical development (strength & speed).  All team workouts will have elements of mental toughness and approach infused in the teaching.  We will try to help them become better learners (be coachable) and competitors (how to compete).  Although we will aspire to win all of our games, we will never do so by hindering player development or the positive experience that this game provides.   Focus; listen and learn; hustle, compete to win, never quit!  The team, which will compete at the 12U Open/A level, will be comprised of players born in 2007. 

Steve Mrowka will serve as the team’s head coach. Coach Mrowka has over 25 years of softball and baseball coaching experience. Previously the head baseball coach at George Washington University and Georgia College & State University, he has over 600 career wins as a college head coach. He is currently the Athletic Director and head softball coach at Northern Virginia Community College;  Joining Coach Mrowka will be assistant coach Bruce Brasher, who brings nearly a decade of experience as a successful travel softball coach in Northern Virginia.  Both coaches have daughters that attended and played softball at Lake Braddock SS:  Maggie Mrowka, MIF/C, LBSS 2018 - will play softball at the University of Mary Washington in fall 2018; Erica Brasher, OF, LBSS 2019.

Firebirds 12U – Sable

The Firebirds 12U – Sable team will begin the fall season as a registered C team with the focus to moving to B in the spring.  We will focus on teaching advanced softball skills, strategy, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship to young ladies of above-average athletic ability.  This season we anticipate playing mostly local USSSA tournaments with a few out of town trips.  Our fall season runs into November.  Winter workouts will be scheduled indoors from January through March.  Our spring / summer season runs from April through July.  The team mostly consist of players born in 2006.  We have roster spots open in all positions.  

Firebirds 12U – Abromavage
Firebirds 12U - Abromavage is registered as an A team and will play a highly competitive schedule focusing on USA and USSSA Elite Select tournaments.  High intensity practices focused on fundamentals and in-game strategy yield players with solid mechanics who know how to play the game.  Players receive respectful coaching that values the individual player while also expecting players to bring their best attitude and effort to every practice.

The team is looking for passionate players willing to put in work outside practice to improve their game.  Specifically, the team will add two bracket level pitchers, a middle infielder, and an outfielder with power in 2018-2019 tryouts.

Firebirds 14U – Moon
Firebirds 14U-Moon will consist primarily of 2005 birth year players and will play at the highest level possible, entering A level and Open tournaments.  The team will mainly play local tournaments in the Fall, and then look to travel more in the Spring and Summer to play higher levels of competition. Overall, the team is focused on developing players to play the game at a high level and to be prepared for high school and on a path to play in college.

The team is coached by Jake Moon, the varsity head coach at Edison High School and 2018 National District Coach of the Year. Coach Moon has 15 years of experience as a travel and high school softball and baseball coach. He was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played college baseball at Cal State Fullerton. Kristy Goodrich and Megan Hardy will be the assistant coaches. 

Coach Goodrich has experience as a youth softball coach and pitching coach, and served as an assistant coach and pitching coach at the University of Maine, a Division I program. Growing up in Ohio, Coach Goodrich pitched and played third base for her travel team, which consistently placed top 2 in the state and went to ASA Nationals. She holds the Ohio state record for most strikeouts pitched in one game. She played Division I college ball for Furman University in Greenville, SC.

Coach Hardy was the head varsity coach at Potomac Falls High School for two seasons. Growing up in Pennsylvania, she played first base, third base, and catcher. She played Division III softball at Misericordia University in Dallas, PA, where she still holds the single season home run record.

Firebirds 14U – Knapp
Firebirds 14U - Knapp strives to give young athletes the coaching, guidance and resources to become successful on and off the field.  Practices are physically and mentally challenging to develop solid mechanics they can rely upon in times of adversity.  There is a focus upon accountability among the group to themselves and their teammates.  Firebirds '04 compete at the A/OPEN/Elite level and will participate in showcases and intend to qualify for national tournaments year-round.   Firebirds 14U is an established team, though for the 2018-19 season, we are looking to add an experienced  '04 A/Elite pitcher, experienced outfielder to compete in CF/LF as well as an experienced SS/UT that could also play 3B, all with plus-bats.  Experienced travel players are welcome!

Firebirds 16U/18U – Meyer
The Firebirds 02 are an A-level team based in Northern Virginia.  Our roster consists of highly motivated student/athletes who have the desire to compete at the collegiate level.  We will be playing 18U open tournaments and college showcase events with the goal of qualifying for a national tournament next summer.  We are looking to add bracket level power and speed to our roster during 2018-2019 tryouts.

Firebirds 18U – Pilch
The Firebirds 18U - Pilch team focuses on the fundamentals of softball and seeks to improve our players’ skills, while emphasizing camaraderie, team work, and competitive play.  We will play local tournaments during the Fall and Summer.  During the Spring, our players play for their local High School teams.  Our coaches grew up playing baseball and have extensive experience coaching fastpitch softball.
