Board of Supervisors Approves Lights for Clermont Park

After a public hearing that lasted nearly two hours, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted, 10-0, tonight to change the deed restriction for Clermont Park. The change will allow for lights on fields 4 & 3 (one baseball and one softball field), until 9 pm. The change also allows lighting of the parking lot until 9:30. Multiple Board members cited the needs of the girls’ softball community and the emails and oral statements delivered by NVGSA families as influential to their decision. Thank you to everyone who participated in the process by emailing the Park Authority and your Board members, attending and speaking at public meetings, and attending and speaking at today’s public hearing. It really made a difference.

This represents the most difficult policy hurdle in this process. But the work is not done yet. Next, the Fairfax County Park Authority Board must approve a change to the Clermont Park master plan. Then, NVGSA, Pioneer Baseball, and the Park Authority can begin discussions about possible mechanisms for funding the installation of lights. Stay tuned for updates on how you can support these processes.

If you have any questions about the process, please contact Jesse Ellis, NVGSA Vice President for Travel, at travel@nvgsa.org
